A Brief History of International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day has roots stretching back to the early 1900s. By 1977, the United Nations officially recognised 8th March as International Women’s Day, and it has since become a global day of reflection, celebration, and action.

Today, IWD is marked by events, marches, forums, and community celebrations across more than 100 countries, with themes such as “Choose to Challenge”, “Embrace Equity”, or “Inspire Inclusion” guiding each year’s focus.
