Celebrate World Chocolate Day on the 7th July with doTERRA: Chocolate Recipes with an Aromatic Twist

World Chocolate Day is every chocolate lover’s dream excuse to indulge in one of the world’s most beloved treats. Celebrated globally on 7 July, it marks the day chocolate was introduced to Europe in 1550. From ancient rituals to gourmet desserts, chocolate has come a long way—and what better way to honour it than with a healthy, aromatic twist using doTERRA essential oils?

A Brief History of Chocolate

Chocolate’s journey began in ancient Mesoamerica, where the Mayans and Aztecs used cacao in ceremonial drinks and medicines. It was bitter, spiced, and far from the sweet treat we know today.

In the 1500s, Spanish explorers brought cacao to Europe, where sugar and vanilla transformed it into the indulgent dessert we love. Over the centuries, chocolate evolved into bars, truffles, hot drinks and baked goods—becoming a global symbol of pleasure and celebration.

Using Essential Oils in Chocolate Recipes

🍫 Peppermint Essential Oil Chocolate Fudge

  • 1 can (395g) condensed milk
  • 300g dark chocolate (chopped)
  • 25g butter
  • 2 drops doTERRA Peppermint Oil
  • Optional: crushed almonds or cacao nibs
  1. Melt chocolate, butter and condensed milk over low heat.
  2. Stir until smooth, remove from heat and add peppermint oil.
  3. Pour into lined tray, sprinkle with toppings and chill.

🍊 Wild Orange Chocolate Bark

  • 200g dark or milk chocolate
  • 3 drops doTERRA Wild Orange Oil
  • Chopped pistachios, cranberries, and coconut flakes
  1. Melt chocolate and stir in Wild Orange Oil.
  2. Spread onto baking paper and add toppings.
  3. Chill, then break into rustic bark pieces.

☕ Cinnamon Hot Chocolate

  • 2 cups almond or dairy milk
  • 2 tbsp cacao powder
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup or honey
  • 1 drop doTERRA Cinnamon Bark Oil
  • Pinch of sea salt
  1. Warm milk gently and whisk in cacao, sweetener, and salt.
  2. Remove from heat, add Cinnamon Bark Oil and stir.
  3. Pour into a mug and garnish with nutmeg or grated chocolate.
